Hello! My name is Carol Freeman
I was born and grew up in the West Village area of Greenwich Village, in Manhattan, New York City. It was a highly diverse social environment to have grown up in. My home life was also diverse. Three of my four grandparents were immigrants. Not one of my grandparents spoke the same first language. One spoke English, one French, one Italian and one Spanish. Holidays around our house were always interesting! Somehow, everyone seemed to communicate! This linguistically and culturally diverse home environment, coupled with my school and neighborhood nurtured my lifelong interest in and love of diverse languages and cultures.
I went on to graduate from Georgetown University, where I studied International Management, Linguistics, French and Japanese. This included studies at the Georgetown Schools of Foreign Service and Languages and Linguistics. I have worked for major corporations in Tokyo, New York, and Hawaii. I have taught French and Japanese in Fulton County, at the middle school and high school levels, ESL at Cobb County, Japanese at Georgia State University, and French, ESL and Japanese in private language schools. I focus on teaching strategies for the beginning language learner. These strategies build confidence and provide a strong foundation for more advanced language studies. The objective is always to develop confident, independent speakers of the target language. In addition to teaching, I enjoy studying applied linguistics, reading, traveling, cooking and a brisk walk to clear the mind.
