Hello! My name is Hika Anani
I teach American Literature, British Literature, and AP English Language and Composition, and am the teacher advisor for the Debate and Creative Writing Clubs. I hold a BA in English Literature-Creative Writing from Agnes Scott College, an MA in Teaching and Learning from Ashford University, and, most recently, an MFA in Creative Writing and Literature from Bennington College. I’ve been in education for over twelve years, working with students from elementary school through college, in and out of the classroom.
To read and write allows us to be part of a conversation so much bigger than ourselves; to learn about and from perspectives that are different from our own. I endeavor to inspire my students by fostering inquiry, providing them with the space to practice and strengthen their critical thinking skills, and making room for empathy and joy in the learning process. I appreciate the smaller class sizes at Capstone, which make it easier to reach each student in a meaningful way, pushing their engagement and helping them get the most out of each class.
When not teaching, I spend a lot of time reading (surprise!), writing short stories and starting novels, baking, and playing piano. I also believe that everyone should embrace being an amateur at something, so I’ve recently started taking voice lessons.
